The USGA Women's Amateur Championship - 1950

The qualifying rounds were again suspended and 110 women competed in an all match championship played at the Atlanta Georgia Athletic Club.
Beverly Hanson of Fargo, North Dakota defeated Mae Murray, 6 and 4.
This was the 50th (Golden) Anniversary of the USGA Women's championship. (Although it started in 1895, years were lost due to suspended play during both World Wars). This particular contest was most noteworthy because of the most extra holes ever played in the history of this event.
Mae Murray defeated Fav Crocker of Montevideo, Uruguay on the 27th hole in the 4th round after 9 extra holes. Of the British entrants, Philomena Garvey, went the furthest, she was defeated in the 5th round by Beverly Hanson.
Glenna Collett Vare qualified for the 22nd time, setting yet another record in her
long and illustrious career.
